General Description

The Institute of Physics of Jagellonian University, Forschungszentrum KFA Jülich and Gesellschaft für Schwerionenforschung GSI Darmstadt are organizing the Workshop to establish closer contacts between experimentalists and theorists involved in the studies of meson production, properties and interaction. With new already operating proton, electron and heavy ions accelerators for medium energy physics new experimental opportunities for the meson production in different processes, their interaction and properties are becoming available. This conference will cover lectures on both experimental and theoretical aspects of the subject and presentation of the status of running and planned experiments at the intermediate energy facilities. The main topics of the conference will be:

  • meson production in various reactions
  • meson interaction with mesons, hadrons and nuclei
  • meson properties and decay
  • We intend to provide an overview of the present status in these fields, as well as new developments and a review of the forthcoming experiments.

The conference maintain the tradition of the workshops on "Meson production, interaction and decay", Cracow 1991, "Strangeness in nuclei", Cracow 1992 and "Meson-nulceus interations", Cracow 1993 with the topics that comprise subjects of these workshops.

    Format and Schedule

The conference sessions will be held from Friday, May 10, through Tuesday, May 14, 1996. There will be the morning plenary sessions intended for invited general lectures. Afternoon seminars will be essentially devoted to discussions. Both invited and contributed papers will be presented orally.

    Proceedings

Invited talks and contributed papers will be published following the conference in the proceedings of the conference (special issue of Acta Physica Polonica).

    Registration and Conference Fee

A conference fee of 100 $ will be charged to all participants. It will entitle each participant to attend all sessions and the social program, and includes refreshments and one copy of the proceedings.

    Location

The workshop will be held at the Conference Center of the Jagellonian University. The Center is located in a beautiful surroundings at ca 6 km distance from the Cracow center.

Cracow is an old city, the former capital city of Poland and the seat of the second oldest University in Middle Europe founded in 1364.

    Accommodations

Most of the participants will be accomodated in the Conference Centre hotel. The number of participants is limited to about 100 persons. Since we expect more guests than the number of available places at the Conference Centre hotel some participants will be accomodated in hotels in the City. Some places in Student Hotels will be also available. For those guests the transportation to the Conference Centre (before the morning sessions) and back (after the evening events) will be organized.

    Excursions

A sightseeing tour of Cracow will be organized with the visit to the Wawel castle and University Museum. A short excursion to Wieliczka will be organized also on Sunday. There is the famous Wieliczka Salt Mine one of the oldest in Europe. The oldest parts of this still active mine are open to tourists.
